2025 was a demanding year for Ottawa West–Nepean. It began with a provincial election and moved directly into a federal one, requiring sustained organizing effort over many months with little pause in between.
The provincial campaign delivered a clear result. Chandra Pasma was re-elected as our NDP MPP, reflecting strong voter support and a disciplined local organization. That outcome was built through direct engagement with voters and consistent volunteer effort across the riding.
The federal campaign followed immediately. While the result was different, the work substantially strengthened the federal NDP’s presence in Ottawa West–Nepean. Over the course of the year, volunteers held nearly 18,000 door-to-door conversations, made more than 30,000 phone calls, and delivered over 1,600 lawn signs. This was the most extensive federal ground operation the riding has undertaken.
Those numbers matter because they represent sustained, face-to-face engagement. They reflect time spent listening to residents about housing costs, access to health care, transit, and the financial pressures many households continue to face.
The work did not stop between elections. Throughout 2025, Ottawa West–Nepean New Democrats stayed active locally, sharing information, raising concerns about public spending and decision-making, and remaining present in the community even when there was no immediate campaign underway. That consistency helped maintain trust and visibility across both levels of government.
Back-to-back elections can exhaust a local organization. In this case, they strengthened it. Volunteers gained experience, new organizers stepped forward, and the riding emerged from 2025 with greater capacity, stronger networks, and a clearer sense of what sustained organizing can achieve.
As we look ahead, the focus is on maintaining and building on that foundation. Supporting volunteers, continuing community engagement, and staying organized between campaigns are essential to future success.
There is a great deal to be proud of in what was accomplished in Ottawa West–Nepean in 2025. The results, the scale of engagement, and the strength built over the year all point to a local organization that is growing, serious, and ready for what comes next.
