Alex Cullen was acclaimed as the new Provincial NDP candidate in the Ottawa West-Nepean riding at a meeting of the local NDP Riding Association on Thursday, June 27, 2013. Alex was introduced by Paul Dewar, Member of Parliament and Foreign Affairs critic for the New Democratic Party of Canada. The meeting was well attended by members of the Ottawa West-Nepean NDP and others. The meeting was chaired by riding president Marlene Rivier. "The entry of an NDP candidate of the caliber of Alex Cullen transforms this traditional swing riding into a clear three way race", says Rivier.
Alex has held this riding before after winning it in a by-election in 1997. He has also been councillor for Bay Ward and ran for Mayor of the City of Ottawa in 2010.
Alex Cullen has a proven record as a progressive active in his community, from local community activist to Ottawa City Hall and Queen`s Park, and in the non-profit sector. Following the nomination meeting, the provincial and federal riding associations held their respective Annual General Meetings. Riding executives were chosen for the coming year, during which many observers expect there may be a provincial election in Ontario.
