2013 NDP Federal Convention Floor

The Ottawa West-Nepean NDP sent a contingent of seven delegates to the Federal NDP Convention in Montreal on the week-end of April 12-14th. The convention is the largest that the NDP has ever held, with over 2,000 delegates in attendance.

Attending from our riding were executive members Marlene Rivier, Shelley Rivier, Alex Cullen, Peter Black, Dale Woloshin and Jim Patterson as well as three other riding members.

This being a policy convention, much of the week-end was spent in policy debates. Among many other resolutions, the delegates gave strong support for an updated preamble to the NDP Federal Constitution. Also of note was the re-election of Rebecca Blaikie as the President of the party (Rebecca has been serving as interim president).

You can view a few pictures of the convention on the Federal NDP web site or, for a more local perspective, check out John Hansen's Convention Album. (John Hansen was a delegate from Carleton-Mississippi Mills, where he is also the Vice President of the Federal Riding Association).
